What would you do if hackers posted a fake update on your Twitter account and told followers that you were on crack and couldn’t come to work today?
Such was the case for CNN’s Rick Sanchez whose microblog on Twitter.com was attacked by hackers who posted a fake update about Rick’s crack hangover. Among the few dozen hacked accounts: Barack Obama, Britney Spears and the Fox News Twitter which updated its followers by announcing that Bill O’Reilly is gay.
The attack on Britney’s account was the most colorful. Hackers posted the following message:
HI Yall! Brit Brit here, just wanted to update you on the size of my [vag!%@]. It’s about four feet wide with razor sharp teeth.
Meanwhile, Obama’s followers were asked to give their opinion of the president-elect for a chance win $500 in free gas.
Twitter on Monday said the hacker had broken into 33 accounts by gaining access to tools used by its support team.
“We are engaged in a full security review of all access points to Twitter. In the meantime, we are taking immediate action. First, we are increasing the security of our sign-in mechanism. For added security, we are further restricting access to our support tools. Events like this will happen from time to time to services like ours and its important how we conduct ourselves and that we take this as an opportunity to make Twitter stronger.” From twitter.com
